Blog #2
The name Estella means star. Dictionary.com defines a star as "any of the heavenly bodies, except the moon, appearing as fixed luminous points in the sky at night". Estella who is like a star is like a fixed point to Pip. Pip expects that he will marry her when his benefactor who he believes is Miss Havisham, will let him. Also, like a star Estella is described by Pip as "very and pretty and seemed very proud." (55, Dickens) and also as "beautiful and self-possessed." (56, Dickens). Estella lives up to the reputation of her name, as she is beautiful and very pointed in her remarks.

At the end of part two of Great Expectations Pip finds out who his benefactor is and it is not Miss Havisham as he had expected it was all those years. It turned out to be the convict he helped a long time ago in his childhood. Upon learning this, Pip realized that he was not set up to marry Estella like he always thought he was. Pip was devastated because the future he had envisioned was no longer possible. Pip feels in his mind that he can no longer pursue Estella and that Estella will probably marry someone else.

Pip
"...I felt fearfully sensible of the great convenience that the Hulks were handy for me. I was clearly on my way there. I had begun by asking questions. and I was going to rob Mrs. Joe."
Answer the question: What do we know about the character's personality based on this evidence?
From this quote we can gather that Pip is not very confident and a bit paranoid. This quote is from when it was Christmas dinner and the police had come to see Joe to have him fix their handcuffs. Pip is haunted by guilt of having helping the convict the police are seeking. After Pip stole the items for the convict Pip feels extremely guilty for taking them and hes also scared that he'll be found out for helping the convict. Pip is not confident in his actions because his sister Mrs. Joe is very emotionally abusive towards him. By his sister being mean to him it ruins his self-confidence or ability to become more confident.
